Final Reflection
Throughout my undergraduate career, I have learned to appreciate how important it is to broaden one's horizons and how different cultures behave and interact with each other. Now, as I begin my postgraduate education, I would like to continue studying how this difference in backgrounds affects the international business environment, and how to best translate the lessons learned in the classroom into usable life-skills.
After moving from Italy to the United States in 2008, I realized how different two cultures can be and how challenging it is for someone coming from a different part of the world to truly understand and live within a set of parameters they are not used to. For the past nine years, I have had the privilege to be able to observe some key differences between how business is done in Italy and how it is done in the United States. Additionally, during my study abroad program in Paris, I managed to further compare my previous experiences in America and other European countries to how the French live their daily lives as well as to how they navigate their local business environment, thus becoming increasingly interested in learning how to bridge these cultures together to facilitate the sharing of ideas.
It is because of this passion that I will have started the Masters in International Business at the Darla Moore School of Business. I believe I will be able to maximize the benefits I can receive from this program because, in addition to my numerous international experiences, I have always had a penchant for trying to be an effective mediator and constantly try to approach specific problems from different points of view to truly understand the whole picture. Due to this predisposition, in August 2016 I decided to join the University of Florida International Center to work with them in order to help as many students as possible to internationalize their degrees and broaden their horizons . These are the skills that, in addition to my fluency in Italian, French, and Spanish, make me the ideal person to navigate the international business world. With the lessons I will learn in this degree program, I hope to jumpstart a career that is beneficial both to my future stakeholders as well as to the communities that will help us be successful around the world. Ideally, I will be able to do so by entering the biotechnology consulting sector where I can combine the knowledge from both my business administration and pre-health curricula, and eventually start my own venture turning it into a global company.
